Sloan

Piano, Clarinet

Sloan is enthusiastically involved in music and education. At the age of 3, he began piano lessons, learning the Suzuki method, Kodály, Orff, and Eurythmics. At 11, he started clarinet study and continues playing to this day. Sloan grew up with and enjoys listening to music of all genres and eras. He specifically enjoys indie, classical, folk, and jazz. At 18, he began teaching in classroom settings, conducting and teaching middle school band classes at Glenview Senior Public School. Additionally, he taught clarinet students and prepared them for performance evaluations.

Sloan currently assists and guest teaches at the Royal Ontario Museum, providing lessons on history, science, literacy, and music in a number of programs. He graduated from York University in 2022 with a Fine Arts degree in Music, specializing in Classical Clarinet Performance. He is continuing his studies at York in the Faculty of Education. Throughout his university education, Sloan has participated in York University's Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Media Music Club. He was chosen section leader for Wind Ensemble in 2021-2022, and has been the principal clarinetist for York's orchestra since 2020-present. He also performs in pop-up performances inside and outside of school and is part of the Royal Armed Forces Artillery Band. Sloan's priority for his students is to find personalized strategies and learning styles that make learning music enjoyable. While he is very serious about providing a music education experience that will greatly benefit students' learning and their preparation for performances and music within the education system, he believes in the importance of having fun with music and finding music that piques his students' interests.Sloan grew up with and enjoys listening to music of all genres and eras.
