Recital Registration

While participation in recitals is not mandatory for students enrolled in music lessons at Greater Toronto Music School. We understand that every student is unique, and our primary goal is to foster a love for music in a supportive and encouraging environment. While we highly encourage students to participate in recitals as they provide valuable performance experience and help build confidence, we respect each student's personal comfort level and musical journey. Our Toronto music teachers are dedicated to providing a personalized approach to music lessons, ensuring that every student can progress at their own pace.

There are no additional costs associated with participating in the recital. The recital is included in the cost of your Toronto music lessons, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to perform without extra fees. This covers all aspects of the event, including venue rental, event coordination, the chance for students to showcase their progress and high quality photo and video to commemorate the performance.

Greater Toronto Music School holds its recitals biannually, with performances scheduled in June and December. These recitals provide an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their progress and talents to family, friends, and fellow music enthusiasts. Our June recital celebrates the achievements of the school year, while the December recital adds a festive touch, celebrating the holiday season with music. Both events are designed to be inspiring, supportive, and enjoyable for all participants and attendees, reflecting our commitment to fostering a love of music and performance in a nurturing environment.

Recitals take place at professional venues in central locations, offering students the chance to perform in a real stage setting. The venue is chosen to accommodate all participants and attendees comfortably. Past venues include the Tranzac Club, Heliconian Club and Supermarket.

At Greater Toronto Music School, we welcome students of all ages and skill levels to participate in our bi-annual recitals. While most performers are children aged 4 to 18, we group them by age and ability to create a comfortable performance environment. For our adult students, we also host open mic events, offering a fun and supportive space to showcase their talents alongside fellow peers.

There is no strict dress code, but it’s a great opportunity to dress up and make the performance feel special. Students are encouraged to express their personality through their attire.

Recitals typically last around 60 minutes, depending on the number of performers. We aim to create an enjoyable experience for both performers and the audience while keeping the event concise. We generally host several recitals from morning to evening and group students together based on age & skill level. On average, each performance will last from 3 to 5 minutes.

Students work with their Toronto music teachers to select a piece for the recital that reflects their current skill level and musical interests. The goal is to choose something they feel confident playing and excited to share with an audience.

Absolutely! Family and friends are warmly invited to attend the recital. Each student receives a complimentary ticket for themselves and one accompanying adult. Additional seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage reserving tickets early as space is limited. This ensures everyone can enjoy the performance and support the students in a comfortable setting.

Yes, we always have a professional photo and video team on site to capture the moment. Footage will be made available to each family free of charge and may be posted on our website and social media following the event. If you would like to participate but do not consent to photos, let a member of our team know and we will ensure that the team is made aware.

Helping your child manage performance nerves is key to building their confidence. Encourage regular practice in between Toronto music lessons to help them feel more prepared and comfortable with their piece. You can also organize small "practice performances" at home in front of family or friends to simulate the recital experience. Remind your child that it's okay to feel nervous and that almost all performers will feel the same. Let them know that everyone in the audience is there to support them. Focusing on the fun and excitement of sharing their music can also help shift their mindset from fear to excitement. Most importantly, provide positive reinforcement and let them know that it's about progress, not perfection!

Ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night before and arrives at the recital on time. Encourage a light warm-up before the performance to ease any jitters, and remind them to bring any materials they need, such as sheet music, tuners, or instruments, if applicable.

Greater Toronto Music School provides a piano, drum kit, amplifiers, microphones, cables and music stands. Students will need to bring their instrument (if not listed above), guitar picks, tuners, drum sticks and sheet music if they will be reading. A member of our team will send you more details as the recital approaches.
